How We Handle It
A single cubic yard of rock or gravel runs over 3,000 pounds. Landscaping rock can often be recycled or reused, so it does not have to end up in a local landfill.

What We Take: Rock & Gravel Removal
We take landscaping stone and river rock, pea stone and crushed gravel, cobbles and edging stone, retaining wall block, patio pavers, flagstone, fill dirt and sod, and the landscape fabric under any of it. Broken concrete and brick from an old walkway can go in the same load. Clean stone is often reusable, so if you would rather have it stacked than hauled, say so and we will stack it. What we do haul away goes to local recycling centers, where it can be crushed and used again rather than buried.
What Sets the Price on Rock & Gravel Removal
Stone is the clearest case of weight beating volume on this site. A single cubic yard of rock runs over 3,000 pounds, and a cubic yard is a cube three feet on a side, about waist high, so a pile that looks like an afternoon's work is a full load in practice. That is why heavy material is priced by weight rather than by the cubic yard: disposal is sold to us by the ton, between $185 and $300 depending on the facility. The other half of the number is the barrow run. Stone beside the driveway is quick. Stone in a back garden behind a gate comes out one barrow at a time, and that is the part a photo of the pile does not show.

What landscaping materials do you haul?
We haul rock, gravel, river stone, retaining wall block, pavers, sand, and dirt, and we bring the trucks and the shovels for it.
How is rock and gravel removal priced?
We price it by weight, because stone is heavier than it looks and a single cubic yard of gravel weighs well over a ton. Send a photo of the pile and we'll quote it, then confirm the number in person before we start. The $120 minimum applies.
Why not just haul it myself?
You can, but the weight makes it slow and hard on your vehicle. What looks like a few trips with buckets turns into dozens, and overloading a car or pickup can damage the suspension, which is expensive to fix. We load, haul, and rake the area out in one visit.
Can the stone be reused?
Often, yes. Clean rock and gravel are frequently recycled into fill and landscaping supply rather than dumped. We route materials to reuse whenever facilities accept them.
Do you bring a machine, or is it all by hand?
We work mostly by hand, with barrows, because a machine on a lawn usually does more damage than it saves on a residential job. If a pile is big enough that hand work stops making sense, we will say so before the day rather than find out on it. Either way the lawn, the driveway and the beds get left the way we found them.
Can you take the stone but leave the fabric and the edging?
Yes, if that is what you want. Tell us at the start and we will lift the stone off and leave the fabric and the edging in place, which saves you buying both again. If it is all going, the fabric, the edging and the fill underneath go on the same load, and that fill is heavy in the same way the stone is, so it belongs in the quote rather than added later.
Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.
