Concrete Removal in Salem & the North Shore
We remove old concrete patios, walkways and slabs, and the pieces go to recycling. We're brother-owned, locally operated, and open 24/7, and we work in Salem, Swampscott, Marblehead and 38 more towns on the North Shore and in Middlesex and Suffolk counties.
We break up the concrete and haul the pieces out
Breaking up concrete takes real muscle, and hauling it takes a truck built for the weight. Old patios, cracked walkways, slabs left over from a build: we lift it, load it, and run the masonry debris to local recycling centers.
How We Handle It
Concrete is the heaviest thing we haul, and steps come out the same way a patio does: we break them up and load them out. At the recycling center the concrete gets crushed and used again instead of being buried.
"Great job demolishing and removing my shed. Excellent communication, fair price and friendly service. The trifecta of any business!"
"Absolutely recommend!!! Excellent communication, very polite, and clear pricing. These guys WANT TO WORK, flexible and patient as our plans kept shifting. My dad has dementia and they were incredibly sensitive to our situation. We really appreciated that!"
"Absolutely awesome experience with Junk Heroes! Professional, friendly, efficient, and incredibly quick. They showed up on time and made the whole junk-removal process painless. Moving out of an apartment is stressful enough, so a crew that takes pride in the work was huge."
"Junk Heroes did an amazing job with our junk removal in Saugus, Massachusetts. They arrived on time, worked fast, and completely cleared out a porch that was packed with junk, boxes, and old items. The before-and-after difference was amazing."
"The Junk Heroes are awesome!!! Excellent communication, showed up on time, and worked quickly. They were super careful while removing a heavy, awkward appliance through an old house and they talked to each other throughout the process to make sure nothing was damaged."
"Absolutely would recommend Henrique and Filipe, so nice and professional and came same day for both a quote and the actual removal!! They were careful to pivot things around our existing furniture and walls so as not to scratch or damage anything. Only good things to say!"
What We Take: Concrete Removal
What we load on a concrete job is broken slab, patio and walkway sections, front steps, curbing and edging, retaining wall block, brick, cinder block, pavers, and the footings and sonotubes from under a deck or a hoop. Wire mesh and rebar out of a slab come with it and get pulled out as scrap. Clean masonry goes to a local recycling center where it is crushed and used again rather than buried. What we cannot take is anything you suspect contains asbestos, which on an older property can mean floor tile or pipe wrap sitting right next to the concrete, and that needs a licensed abatement contractor first.
What Sets the Price on Concrete Removal
Concrete is the one load where the truck runs out of weight long before it runs out of room. A pile that looks like nothing in a driveway is a full load in practice, which is why heavy material is priced by weight rather than by the cubic yard. Disposal is sold to us by the ton, between $185 and $300 depending on the facility and what is in the load, so the honest way to price this is to see it. The other half of the number is the barrow run. A slab beside the driveway and a slab in a back garden behind a gate are two different days. Send a photo with something in the frame for scale, and tell us how far it is to where the truck can park.
How Much Will This Cost?
We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.
- $120 minimum pickup
- Priced by weight rather than by the cubic yard
For a very small job close to our Salem base we can sometimes bring the minimum down to $80 to $100, so it is worth asking. The minimum can also be higher for a job well outside our normal routes. See the full pricing page.

Every load we bring in is weighed and we pay for it by the ton, and that disposal cost is one of the two reasons junk removal in Massachusetts runs higher than the national averages you will find online. Here is what junk removal costs in Massachusetts, including the volume rate, the $120 minimum and what weight does to a number.
Concrete Removal FAQs
Do you break up the concrete or just haul it?
We do both. We break up patios, walkways, and steps, then haul the debris away. If you've already got a rubble pile, we'll load and haul that too.
How is concrete removal priced?
Concrete is priced by weight, because a full truck of it weighs several tons. Send a photo with something in the frame for scale and we'll quote it, then confirm the number in person before we start, with a $120 minimum.
Where does the concrete go?
It goes to local recycling centers, where it's crushed and reused as aggregate for new construction. Almost none of it needs to see a landfill.
Is there a limit to how much concrete you can take?
No, bigger jobs just take multiple trips, and we'll build that into your quote upfront. From one broken step to an entire patio, the process is the same.
Do you need to bring machinery into my yard?
Usually not. Most patios, walkways and steps come up with a breaker and hand tools, which keeps the lawn and the driveway the way we found them. If a slab is thick enough or big enough that hand work stops making sense, we will say so before the day rather than turn up and find out. Anything structural, a foundation or a wall holding a building up, is a demolition contractor's job rather than ours.
Can you take the concrete but leave the dirt underneath?
Yes, and that is the usual ask. We lift the slab and the base stone out and stop at grade, so you are left with soil to fill, seed or build on. If you want the gravel base and the dirt gone as well, tell us when you book, because that is a second load and it is heavy in the same way the concrete is. Either way you get the number before we start breaking anything.
Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.
