What We Take: Carpet Removal
We take the carpet, the padding under it, the tack strips off the perimeter, and the staples and transition strips that come up with them. Stair runners, carpet tiles, area rugs and the underlay in a finished basement all go in the same load. If the room is being redone anyway, the old baseboard, the closet doors and the underlayment can go on the same truck. Carpet is bulky rather than heavy, so it fills the truck long before it ever weighs it down, and that is why it is priced by the space it takes up.
What Sets the Price on Carpet Removal
Carpet is the clearest case of volume pricing on this site. Rolled carpet and padding out of three bedrooms is more truck than a washer and dryer, and the truck is what you are paying for, at $70 to $100 a cubic yard with a $120 minimum. Two things bring it toward the low end. Rolls already cut and stacked by the door load quickly, and a ground floor with the driveway close by is a short carry. Carpet coming out of a third-floor walk-up, still down and still full of dust, is the other end of it. Tell us how many rooms and which floor, and that is enough to price it.
How Much Will This Cost?
Pricing is based on the space your load takes up in the truck, or on weight for heavy material. We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.

Do you tear out the carpet or just haul it away?
We do either. We can pull up the carpet, padding, and tack strips ourselves, or haul away rolls you've already cut, whichever works better for you.
How much does carpet removal cost?
It's priced by the space the carpet takes up in the truck, with a $120 minimum, and carpet still down on an upper floor costs more to clear than rolls already stacked by the door. Text us the room count and rough sizes and we'll quote it, then lock the number in person before we start.
Is old carpet recyclable?
Some of it, yes. Carpet and padding can often be processed for material recovery, and we route it there when facilities accept it rather than defaulting to the landfill.
How fast can you clear carpet before my new flooring arrives?
We can usually clear it within a day or two, and often the same day. Tell us your install date and we'll book you ahead of it, so the floors are bare and swept before the crew shows up.
The carpet has been wet. Do you still take it?
Yes. Wet and mildewed carpet is some of the most common carpet we haul, usually out of a basement after a storm or a burst pipe. We roll and bag it where it sits so the water and the smell are not tracked through the house on the way out. If the room still has standing water in it, tell us when you book, because that changes how we bag it and how long we are there. How much carpet fits on one truck?
The truck holds 20 cubic yards, which is about eight pickup beds, and rolled carpet and padding out of a typical three-bedroom house does not fill it. If you are clearing a whole house or a commercial floor, tell us the square footage when you call and we will say whether it is one trip or two before we start rather than after.
Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.
