We take couches out, down the stairs and through the tight doorways

We haul away old couches, loveseats, sectionals, sleeper sofas, futons and recliners from anywhere in the house, so you don't have to wrestle one down the stairs or wait for a bulk pickup day. A couch that still has life in it is offered for donation first, and one that's stained, torn or broken goes to disposal, so you don't need to worry about what shape it's in before you call us.

How We Handle It

Send us a photo of the couch and tell us which floor it's on, and we'll give you a price, which we confirm on site before anything is moved. On the day, Filipe, the crew and I carry it out instead of dragging it, and we pad the tight corners and the railings on the way so your walls don't take the hit.

What We Take: Couch & Sofa Removal

On a couch job we take the couch and anything that goes with it: loveseats, sectionals in any number of pieces, sleeper sofas, futons and their frames, recliners and lift chairs, ottomans, and the coffee table and end tables. A sleeper, a reclining sectional with motors in it or a solid wood frame weighs more than it looks, so mention it when you book. If a mattress is going too, it goes to a mattress recycler whenever the recycler will accept it, because Massachusetts banned mattresses from the trash in November 2022. It carries its own fee.

What Sets the Price on Couch & Sofa Removal

A single couch usually lands at or near our $120 minimum, because one couch is a small share of a truck that holds 20 cubic yards. The number moves with how many pieces are going and how far we carry them. A loveseat out of a ground-floor living room with the driveway right outside is the short version, and on its own it stays at the $120 minimum. A sectional and a sleeper sofa coming down a third-floor stairway with a turn in it, out to a truck parked on the street, is the long version. Tell us the floor, the stairs and the narrowest doorway on the way out, send a photo, and you get a number before anyone drives over.

How Much Will This Cost?

Pricing is based on the space your load takes up in the truck, or on weight for heavy material. We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.

  • $120 minimum pickup
  • $70 to $100 per cubic yard
  • Closer to $70 when it is light and easy to reach

For a very small job close to our Salem base we can sometimes bring the minimum down to $80 to $100, so it is worth asking. The minimum can also be higher for a job well outside our normal routes. See the full pricing page.

Couch & Sofa Removal FAQs

How much does it cost to get rid of a couch?

On its own, a couch usually comes in at or close to our $120 minimum. A sectional, a sleeper sofa or a couch with a few other pieces going with it is priced by how much of the truck it all fills, and you hear the number before anything is carried out.

Will you take a couch apart to get it out?

Yes. Sectionals come apart at the joins, legs come off, and a sleeper sofa gets its mechanism pulled if that's what it takes. Since the couch is leaving for good, we can cut it down where it sits rather than fight it through a doorway, which is easier on your walls and doorframes.

Do you take a couch that's stained, torn or broken?

Yes. A couch nobody can use is still a normal job for us. It just goes to disposal instead of to a charity. If it has been wet for a while and is heavier for it, mention that when you book so we bring enough hands.

What happens to a couch that's still in good shape?

It's offered for donation first, and only what nobody can use goes for recycling or disposal, though we can't promise where any one piece ends up.

Can you take a couch out of an upstairs apartment?

Yes. We carry it down the stairs or take it in the elevator, and if the building has its own rules about moving hours or elevator bookings, send them over when you book and we'll work to them.

Can you come the same day?

We often can, but we can't promise it, so call or text in the morning and we'll tell you honestly whether we can get there that day.

Our Mission Beyond the Job

We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.

What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.

About Us, Our Story

The Junk Heroes is a brother-owned and operated junk removal company rooted in Salem, MA. We live right on the line between Salem and Swampscott, two minutes from Vinnin Square, and we started this business because we wanted to run a junk removal service that showed up on time, treated customers like neighbors, and charged honest prices.

We give a single couch the same care as a full estate cleanout. Families and businesses around Salem, Swampscott, Beverly, Lynn, and Marblehead have left us 350+ five-star reviews.

The Junk Heroes is an independent company that two brothers built and still run, with a crew of friends who haul alongside them, and we stand behind every job we do.

We do this by the book. We carry $2M in general liability, a $1M umbrella policy and $1M in commercial auto coverage. We are USDOT registered (USDOT 8843043), our drivers hold DOT medical cards, and we hold commercial accounts at the disposal facilities we use, so every load ends up where it is supposed to.
