A hot tub is far heavier than it looks, and there is no moving one on your own. We drain it, take it apart, cut it down to pieces we can carry, and haul off the fiberglass shell and the heavy motors so the metal can be recycled.
How We Handle It
A hot tub can weigh over 800 pounds, so it takes a crew and tools. The insulation comes out with the shell, and the fiberglass and foam are disposed of properly. We clean up the spot where the tub sat before we leave.

What We Take: Hot Tub Removal
What leaves on the truck is the tub itself, cut down into pieces we can carry: the acrylic shell, the foam insulation behind it, the cabinet or surround, the cover and its lifter, the steps, and the pump, heater and blower once the wiring is dead. The motors and the frame are metal, so they come out of the load as scrap rather than going to the transfer station. If the tub sits on a pad or a platform that is also coming out, mention it when you book, because concrete and deck framing are a second load rather than part of this one.
What Sets the Price on Hot Tub Removal
A hot tub is priced by the room it takes up once it is in pieces rather than by what it weighed in one piece, at $70 to $100 a cubic yard with a $120 minimum, and the number is set by the path out. A tub on a patio beside the driveway is the short job. A tub on a back deck, behind a gate, with steps down to the lawn and forty yards to the street, is the long one, and it is the part a photo of the tub does not show. Send a second photo from the street looking at the tub, tell us the width of the narrowest gate on the way, and we can price it before anyone drives over, then confirm the number in person before we cut a single panel.

Pricing is based on the space your load takes up in the truck, or on weight for heavy material. We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.

Do I need to drain the hot tub before you arrive?
If you can drain it beforehand, that speeds things up, but if you can't, tell us when you book and we'll plan for it. Either way, the tub leaves in pieces on that one visit.
How do you get a hot tub out of a tight backyard?
We cut the shell into sections and carry it out piece by piece, through gates, around gardens, down slopes. We don't need a crane, and your lawn stays intact.
What about the electrical hookup?
Have a licensed electrician disconnect the wiring before we arrive. We don't do that part ourselves. Once it's disconnected, we handle everything else.
How much does hot tub removal cost?
A hot tub is priced by the space the pieces take up once it is cut down, with a $120 minimum, and the path out to the truck moves the number. You get one firm quote before we cut a single panel, and the metal goes to a scrap recycler.
Does it have to be cut up, or can it come out whole?
We cut it down where it sits. An empty shell still weighs several hundred pounds and is wider than any gate on a normal lot, so cutting it into sections two people can carry is how it gets out without a crane. We pick up the foam and the cuttings before we go, because that is the part that blows around a yard.
The tub has been sitting full for two winters. Is that a problem?
It only affects the timing. If it is still full, tell us when you book and we will drain it on the day, which makes that visit run longer. Once it is empty it is an ordinary job for us, however bad the water looked.
Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.
