An attic is hot, dusty, and tight, and the stairs are the dangerous part. We go up, work around the rafters, and carry out the old boxes, the luggage, and the things nobody has looked at in years, so you're not the one backing down a pull-down ladder with a load in your arms.
How We Handle It
We bring old furniture down too, without banging up your walls or doorframes, and if something turns up that matters to you, we set it aside instead of tossing it. What's usable goes for donation, what's recyclable gets recycled, and we keep the rest out of the landfill where we can.

What We Take: Attic Cleanout
What comes down from an attic is mostly boxes, and what is in them is mostly paper, clothing, holiday decorations, old luggage, baby gear and furniture that went up there when somebody moved in. We take all of it, along with the rolled insulation, the scrap lumber left over from a past project, the old television or computer monitor and the cans of old paint or thinner.
The ones people ask about: we do take paint, chemicals, motor oil, tires, car batteries and propane tanks. They are quoted separately because they need special handling. Mattresses and box springs go to a mattress recycler whenever it will accept them, TVs and monitors go to an e-waste recycler, and appliances holding refrigerant go to a recycler that recovers the refrigerant. Each of those recyclers charges per item, and we pass that charge on for every piece it accepts. All of these charges come on top of the minimum or the volume price, and we tell you each one and confirm it with you before any work starts. Mattresses, box springs, old tube (CRT) TVs and monitors, and appliances holding refrigerant are disposal-banned in Massachusetts. The only things we turn down are asbestos, medical or biohazard waste, and anything leaking or still smoldering. See everything we take.
What Sets the Price on Attic Cleanout
An attic is priced by volume like any other load, at $70 to $100 a cubic yard with a $120 minimum, and the thing that moves it inside that band is the way down. A walk-up staircase with a landing at the bottom is straightforward. A pull-down ladder and a narrow hatch means everything comes down in armfuls, one person up top and one below, so a pile that would take an hour out of a garage takes longer out of an attic. Tell us which one you have when you call, and send a photo from the hatch looking in, because that shows us the headroom as well as the pile.
How Much Will This Cost?
Pricing is based on the space your load takes up in the truck, or on weight for heavy material. We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.

Can you work with pull-down stairs and tight attic access?
Yes, we carry everything down pull-down stairs and through tight scuttles safely, without dinging your ceilings or walls. Getting it down those stairs is the part people call us for.
What if there are sentimental items up there?
Tell us and we'll set aside anything you want to keep, like photos, letters and keepsakes, before the hauling starts. We treat family history with the care it deserves.
How much does an attic cleanout cost?
It's priced by how much comes down, with a $120 minimum. Boxes and holiday decor are light and quick. Full attics of furniture take more truck space. Either way, the quote comes first.
Is summer a bad time for an attic cleanout?
Attics do hit brutal temperatures in summer, so we schedule those jobs early in the day. We're open 24/7, so we'll pick a window that's safe and comfortable.
Do you take the old insulation too?
Rolled and batt insulation goes out with the load, and we bag it as it comes down so the fibers are not traveling through the house on the way to the truck. Loose blown-in insulation is not something we can scoop out by hand, so that one belongs to an insulation contractor rather than to us. If you are not sure which you have, send a photo from the hatch and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.
Do I have to bring anything down before you get here?
No. Going up and bringing it down is the job, and it is the part we would rather you left alone, because backing down a pull-down ladder with a box in your arms is where people get hurt. Leave it where it sits. If there is something up there you want kept, point it out before we start and it does not go on the truck.
Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.

We live right on the line between Salem and Swampscott, two minutes from Vinnin Square, and we started this business because we wanted to run a junk removal service that showed up on time, treated customers like neighbors, and charged honest prices.
