We haul away mattresses and box springs in every size, from a crib mattress to a California king, and the frame and the headboard with them if those are going too. Massachusetts banned mattresses and box springs from the trash in November 2022, so the ones we pick up go to a mattress recycler rather than a landfill, as long as the recycler will take them. That recycler charges us per item, so a mattress carries its own fee on top of the job instead of riding along with the rest of the load.
How We Handle It
A mattress is awkward to carry and doesn't fit in a car, and in Massachusetts it can't go out with the regular trash. Where a town does pick one up at the curb, it's a separate paid booking, and nobody comes inside to carry it out. At the recycler the foam, the fabric, and the springs are separated and recycled instead of buried, and you don't have to touch any of it.

What We Take: Mattress & Box Spring Removal
We take mattresses and box springs in every size, from a crib mattress to a California king, along with the bed frame, the headboard, the footboard, the slats and the platform base under it. Futons, sofa beds, an air mattress with a broken pump and the old crib itself go on the same truck. Massachusetts banned mattresses and box springs from disposal in November 2022, so they go to a mattress recycler where the foam, the fabric and the springs are separated, and that recycler charges to take them, which is why a mattress carries a separate fee rather than being folded into the load. A recycler won't accept every mattress, and one it turns away goes to disposal instead.
What Sets the Price on Mattress & Box Spring Removal
A single mattress and box spring is a $120 minimum job, and the recycling fee for each piece sits on top of that because it is what the recycler charges us, not a markup of ours. The scale of it is public: Salem's own mattress recycling page, which we checked in October 2026, says residents pay UTEC, the nonprofit that recycles them, $40 an item for a curbside pickup. That is the city's fee to its own residents, not our charge. From there the number moves on count and on carry. Four sets out of a house we can back the truck up to is quick. One king out of a third-floor walk-up, down a stairway with a turn in it, is a single item and a much longer job. How Much Will This Cost?
Pricing is based on the space your load takes up in the truck, or on weight for heavy material. We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.

Why can't I just put my mattress out with the trash?
Massachusetts banned mattresses and box springs from regular trash disposal, so they can't go out with the weekly trash. Some North Shore towns run a paid curbside pickup for them, and we haul them to facilities where the foam, fabric, and springs are separated and recycled, as long as the recycler can accept them.
How much does mattress removal cost?

Do you take mattresses in any condition?
Yes, old, stained, water-damaged, or broken mattresses and box springs of every size, from twin to California king. Condition doesn't change the price. It can change where the mattress goes, because MassDEP's FAQ on the mattress ban, which we read in October 2026, says a mattress that is wet, moldy, badly torn or soiled, or infested with bed bugs should not be sent for recycling. A mattress like that goes to disposal instead.
What happens to my old mattress?
It goes to a mattress recycler when the recycler will accept it, and there it's broken down: springs to metal recycling, foam and fibers to material processors. MassDEP's FAQ on the mattress ban, which we read in October 2026, says a mattress that is wet, moldy or infested with bed bugs can't be recycled, and that one can go to disposal instead.
Can you take the bed frame and headboard too?
Yes, and it is usually the same trip. A metal frame comes out as scrap, a wooden frame and headboard go with the load, and a platform bed or a storage base comes apart where it stands if it will not fit through the door. Say what is going when you book, so the frame is in the quote rather than added on the day.
Why is there a separate fee when the mattress is being recycled?
The fee is there because recycling a mattress costs money. The state banned mattresses and box springs from the trash in November 2022, so they cannot go in with a normal load, and the recycler that takes them charges per item to break them down. We pass that through and we tell you the number before we start. It is the same reason televisions, monitors and whole tires carry their own line.
Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.
