We take the old deck down and haul every piece away

A pressure-treated deck that has gone soft is heavy, awkward work to take apart. We pull the boards up first, then the joists and the beams, then the posts, and every piece gets cut into truck-length sections right there in the yard instead of being dragged out whole. You do not need to pre-demo anything or pull a single nail before we get there.

Let The Heroes Save Your Day

Most of the decks we take down on the North Shore are pressure-treated and soft in the corners by the time we see them, and they come out in that order: decking, framing, posts. The concrete piers or sonotubes underneath can come out in the same visit, and that concrete goes to local recycling centers where it is crushed and used again. What we do not touch is structural. A roofed porch, or a second-story deck that is carrying part of the building, is a job for a demolition contractor, not for us.

Our Mission Beyond the Job

We care for the environment and are dedicated to keeping the North Shore clean, which is why our mission is to keep as many items as possible out of landfills. To accomplish this we sort through every truck load, and if we see something that can be donated we make sure it gets donated and not dumped.

Items that can't be donated but can still be repurposed get recycled. We partner with local transfer stations to safely dispose of the items left after we donate and recycle.

About Us, Our Story

The Junk Heroes is a brother-owned and operated junk removal company proudly rooted in Salem, MA. We live right on the line between Salem and Swampscott, two minutes from Vinnin Square, and we started this business because we saw a need for a junk removal service that actually showed up on time, treated customers like neighbors, and charged honest prices.

From our very first haul, we've been driven by one simple belief: every job deserves white glove care, whether it's a single couch or a full estate cleanout. That commitment has earned us 300+ five-star reviews from families and businesses throughout Salem, Swampscott, Beverly, Lynn, Marblehead, and beyond.

When you call The Junk Heroes, you're not calling a franchise, you're calling a company two brothers built from the ground up and still run, with a crew of friends who haul alongside them, and we personally stand behind every job we do.

We do this by the book. We carry $2M in general liability, a $1M umbrella policy and $1M in commercial auto coverage. We are USDOT registered (USDOT 8843043), our drivers hold DOT medical cards, and we hold commercial accounts at the disposal facilities we use, so every load ends up where it is supposed to. What We Take: Deck Removal

The ones people ask about: we do take paint, chemicals, motor oil, tires and car batteries. They are quoted separately because they need special handling. Mattresses, TVs and monitors are disposal-banned in Massachusetts, so they go to a specific recycler and carry a separate fee. The only things we turn down are asbestos, medical or biohazard waste, and anything leaking or still smouldering. See everything we take.

Deck Removal FAQs

Do I need to take any of the deck apart before you come?

No, none of it. We bring the saws and the pry bars and do the whole thing, boards first, then the joists and beams, then the posts out of the ground, and we cut it into truck-length sections where it sits so nothing gets dragged across your lawn. If the deck already came down on its own in a storm and what is left is a pile of lumber and brush, that is closer to yard debris removal, and we will tell you which one it is when we look at it.

Can you take out the concrete footings too?

Yes, concrete piers and sonotubes can come out with the deck. Mention the base when you ask for your quote so we bring the right equipment. The concrete goes to local recycling centers where it is crushed and reused rather than buried, and it is the one part of the job priced by weight instead of by volume, because a small pile of it fills a truck in practice.

There are lights and a hot tub wired out to my deck. What happens with those?

Any power run out to the deck, lights or a hot tub feed, has to be disconnected by a licensed electrician before we start. That is a safety line we do not cross. If the hot tub itself is sitting on the deck, it comes off first, and that is hot tub removal, which we can do on the same visit if you tell us about it when you book.

How much does deck removal cost?

Deck lumber is bulky rather than dense, so it is priced by volume, at $80 to $100 per cubic yard against a truck that holds 20 cubic yards, with a $120 minimum. If the carry out to the truck is short and open, it comes down to about $70 a yard. Concrete footings are priced by weight instead. Send a photo and rough dimensions and we will give you a number, then confirm it in person before we pull the first board.

How Much Will This Cost?

Pricing is based on the volume and type of items. We always provide a free, upfront quote before any work begins, no surprises, ever.

  • $120 minimum pickup
  • $80 to $100 per cubic yard
  • About $70 a yard when it is light and easy to reach

For a very small job close to our Salem base we can sometimes come down to $80 to $100, so it is worth asking. See the full pricing page.
