We take the old deck down and haul every piece away
A pressure-treated deck that has gone soft is heavy, awkward work to take apart. We pull the boards up first, then the joists and the beams, then the posts, and every piece gets cut into truck-length sections right there in the yard instead of being dragged out whole. You do not need to pre-demo anything or pull a single nail before we get there.
How We Handle It
The concrete piers or sonotubes underneath can come out in the same visit, and that concrete goes to local recycling centers where it is crushed and used again. What we do not touch is structural. A roofed porch, or a second-story deck that is carrying part of the building, is a job for a demolition contractor, not for us.

What We Take: Deck Removal
What leaves on the truck is the whole deck: decking boards, joists, beams, the ledger, posts, railings and balusters, stair stringers and treads, lattice and skirting, and the hardware that held it together. Composite decking goes with the wood. Joist hangers, brackets, carriage bolts and any railing with a metal frame come out of the load as scrap. Concrete piers and sonotubes go to a local recycling center to be crushed and used again. If there is furniture, a grill or planters still out on the deck when we get there, those can go on the same truck, so say what is going when you book.
What Sets the Price on Deck Removal
Decking is bulky and light, so a deck is priced by the space it takes up in the truck, at $70 to $100 a cubic yard against a truck that holds 20. Two things change that. Concrete piers are heavy for the room they fill, so if the footings are coming out they are weighed rather than measured. And the carry matters more here than on most jobs, because a deck at the back of a house with a gate between it and the street means every cut section is walked around the building. A deck we can drop straight over the rail into a truck in the driveway is the quick version. Tell us which one you have and how big the deck is, and that is enough to price it.
How Much Will This Cost?
Pricing is based on the space your load takes up in the truck, or on weight for heavy material. We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.

Deck Removal FAQs
Do I need to take any of the deck apart before you come?
No, none of it. We bring the saws and the pry bars and do the whole thing, boards first, then the joists and beams, then the posts out of the ground, and we cut it into truck-length sections where it sits so nothing gets dragged across your lawn. If the deck already came down on its own in a storm and what is left is a pile of lumber and brush, that is closer to yard debris removal, and we will tell you which one it is when we look at it.
Can you take out the concrete footings too?
Yes, concrete piers and sonotubes can come out with the deck. Mention the base when you ask for your quote so we bring the right equipment. The concrete goes to local recycling centers where it is crushed and reused rather than buried, and it is the one part of the job priced by weight instead of by volume, because a small pile of it fills a truck in practice.
There are lights and a hot tub wired out to my deck. What happens with those?
Any power run out to the deck, lights or a hot tub feed, has to be disconnected by a licensed electrician before we start. We do not do that part ourselves. If the hot tub itself is sitting on the deck, it comes off first, and that is hot tub removal, which we can do on the same visit if you tell us about it when you book.

Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.
