The ones people ask about: we do take paint, chemicals, motor oil, tires, car batteries and propane tanks. They are quoted separately because they need special handling. Mattresses and box springs go to a mattress recycler whenever it will accept them, TVs and monitors go to an e-waste recycler, and appliances holding refrigerant go to a recycler that recovers the refrigerant. Each of those recyclers charges per item, and we pass that charge on for every piece it accepts. All of these charges come on top of the minimum or the volume price, and we tell you each one and confirm it with you before any work starts. Mattresses, box springs, old tube (CRT) TVs and monitors, and appliances holding refrigerant are disposal-banned in Massachusetts. The only things we turn down are asbestos, medical or biohazard waste, and anything leaking or still smoldering. See everything we take.

Everything we do falls into four groups, and each one has its own page: residential junk removal, commercial services, cleanout services, and light demolition and hauling.
Salem collects furniture, carpet, doors and other bulk items on your recycling day, once you have booked and paid for each one with the city's hauler, and the booking has to be in at least 24 hours ahead. Appliances such as washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers and water heaters go out once a month on a set day, and since July 2025 that also covers refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, TVs and computer monitors. Mattresses and box springs can no longer go out as trash, so a nonprofit recycler the city contracts with picks them up at the curb for a separate fee. If a fee is a hardship, the city has a waiver form for bulk items, mattresses and box springs that goes to its Waste Reduction Coordinator.
The city will not pick up construction or demolition debris, and it does not pick up cleanouts at all. If you are moving or clearing out a house, the city says disposing of large amounts of debris is your responsibility. Paint, chemicals, batteries, used motor oil and propane tanks stay out of the trash and wait for the household hazardous waste day the Board of Health holds for Salem and Beverly residents, and TVs and computers can also go to one of the city's four e-waste days a year.
