Above-Ground Pool Removal in Salem & the North Shore
We haul the whole above-ground pool away in one visit, liner, wall and frame. We're brother-owned, locally operated, and open 24/7, and we work in Salem, Swampscott, Marblehead and 38 more towns on the North Shore and in Middlesex and Suffolk counties.
We take the pool frame apart once it's drained
We take the whole pool down and haul it away on one visit: the liner gets cut out and rolled, the top rails and the uprights come off, the wall gets unrolled and cut down to truck length, and the frame leaves in pieces. You don't need to take a single rail off before we get there. The one thing we need from you is an empty pool. We don't pump or drain it, so have the water out ahead of the visit, either yourself or through whoever closes the pool for you.
How We Handle It
The other thing to sort out ahead of us is the equipment pad. An electrician has to disconnect the pump, the filter and any heater wiring before we touch it. The metal comes out of the load on the way: the steel or aluminum wall, the top rails and the uprights are all scrap, and scrap goes to Turner Inc in Lynn rather than the transfer station. The liner and the foam go with the rest of the load. What is usually left when the frame is gone is the sand base, and under the legs sometimes patio blocks or pavers, so tell us about those when you ask for a quote and the number will already have them in it.
"Great job demolishing and removing my shed. Excellent communication, fair price and friendly service. The trifecta of any business!"
"Absolutely recommend!!! Excellent communication, very polite, and clear pricing. These guys WANT TO WORK, flexible and patient as our plans kept shifting. My dad has dementia and they were incredibly sensitive to our situation. We really appreciated that!"
"Absolutely awesome experience with Junk Heroes! Professional, friendly, efficient, and incredibly quick. They showed up on time and made the whole junk-removal process painless. Moving out of an apartment is stressful enough, so a crew that takes pride in the work was huge."
"Junk Heroes did an amazing job with our junk removal in Saugus, Massachusetts. They arrived on time, worked fast, and completely cleared out a porch that was packed with junk, boxes, and old items. The before-and-after difference was amazing."
"The Junk Heroes are awesome!!! Excellent communication, showed up on time, and worked quickly. They were super careful while removing a heavy, awkward appliance through an old house and they talked to each other throughout the process to make sure nothing was damaged."
"Absolutely would recommend Henrique and Filipe, so nice and professional and came same day for both a quote and the actual removal!! They were careful to pivot things around our existing furniture and walls so as not to scratch or damage anything. Only good things to say!"
What We Take: Above-Ground Pool Removal
What leaves on the truck is the whole pool and the parts that came with it: the cut liner and the foam cove behind it, the wall, the top rails, the uprights and the top caps, the skimmer and the return fittings, the ladder, and the solar or winter cover with its reel. The pump and the filter go in the same load once an electrician has disconnected them. If there is a surround or a run of decking built around the pool, tell us how big it is when you call, because that is a second pile and it changes the size of the load.
What Sets the Price on Above-Ground Pool Removal
Beyond the size of the frame, two things move the number on a pool takedown. The first is how much of the yard is coming out with the frame. The frame on its own is one load. The frame plus the sand base and the patio blocks under the legs is a heavier one, and heavy material is priced by weight rather than by the cubic yard. The second is the gate. If the only way out to the truck is a three foot side gate and forty yards of lawn, that is a longer carry than a driveway on the same side of the house. Send a photo of the pool and a second one from the street looking at it, and you get a number before anyone drives over, then we confirm it in person before we start.
How Much Will This Cost?
Pricing is based on the space your load takes up in the truck, or on weight for heavy material. We give you a free, firm price in person before any work begins, and once you agree to it, it does not go up.
- $120 minimum pickup
- $70 to $100 per cubic yard
- Closer to $70 when it is light and easy to reach
For a very small job close to our Salem base we can sometimes bring the minimum down to $80 to $100, so it is worth asking. The minimum can also be higher for a job well outside our normal routes. See the full pricing page.

Above-Ground Pool Removal FAQs
Do I have to drain the pool before you come?
Yes, and it is the one thing that has to happen first. We do not pump or drain pools, so the water has to be gone before the visit, either done by you or by the pool company that closes it for you. There is no way around it: a liner with water sitting in it cannot be cut out, and a wall with water against it cannot be unrolled. If we pull up to a full pool there is no job to do that day. Drain it, give the ground a day to firm up if it turns soft, then call us and we will take the frame out.
How does the takedown go once the pool is dry?
It comes apart in this order. The liner gets cut out and rolled up first, then the top rails and the uprights come off, then the wall is unrolled off the track and cut down into lengths that fit the truck. The frame leaves in pieces on the same visit, so you are not left looking at half a pool in the yard waiting on a second trip. You do not pre-cut anything and you do not need to unscrew a single rail. We bring the saws and the tools for all of it. If the pool has been down for a while already and what is left is a folded wall and a pile of rails in the grass, we will load that as it sits.
What happens to the pump, the filter and the sand underneath?
The pump, the filter and any heater wiring have to be disconnected by a licensed electrician before we touch the equipment pad. We do not do electrical or plumbing disconnects ourselves. Once it is disconnected the equipment goes out with the load. The sand base is a separate question, because sand is heavy material and it is priced by weight rather than by volume, the same way concrete removal is. Patio blocks or pavers under the legs go the same way. Tell us the sand is there when you ask for a quote so it is in the number from the start.
How much does above-ground pool removal cost?
The frame is bulky and light, so it is volume work, at $70 to $100 per cubic yard against a truck that holds 20 cubic yards, with a $120 minimum. A wall rolled down tight and rails cut to length pack better than most of what we haul, so the frame itself is rarely the expensive half. The sand base and any patio blocks are priced by weight instead, and that is the part people forget to mention, so say what is under the pool when you send the photos. If there is a deck wrapped around the pool or a landing at the ladder, tell us and we will quote both on one visit.
Our Mission Beyond the Job
We keep as much out of landfills as we can. We sort through every truckload, and anything still usable that a charity will take goes for donation first, mostly to Big Blue Bargains in Swampscott, More Than Words in Boston and The Salvation Army.
What cannot be donated gets recycled wherever a facility will take it, and whatever is left goes to the disposal facilities we use.
