How Manchester-by-the-Sea Handles Bulk Items
In Manchester-by-the-Sea, furniture, couches, chairs, carpets and rigid plastics only go out at the curb, by appointment with the town's trash hauler, and the hauler sets the price. The transfer station is open Thursdays and Saturdays to cars with a resident sticker, and trash there goes in the town's orange bags. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, water heaters, grills, mowers, TVs and computer monitors each need an item sticker from the Town Clerk's office at Town Hall.
The town also sells a one-trip pass, but it does not cover construction debris, wooden furniture, mattresses, rugs or bulky plastics, and the transfer station takes no construction waste at all. Mattresses go through a recycler the town links, picked up at the curb for a fee per piece, and brush, leaves and Christmas trees go to the town compost site on Pine Street. We take construction debris and mattresses in Manchester-by-the-Sea along with the furniture.
We checked each rule above against the official page it links to in October 2026.
