Scrap is rarely a neat pile, it is a swing set frame or a radiator in the cellar. The list of what counts is longer than most people expect: swing set and above-ground pool frames, metal bed frames, filing cabinets, radiators, storm doors, gutters, lengths of pipe, steel shelving, grills, lawn mowers and the rest of the lawn equipment, and appliances. If it is mostly metal it is scrap, and it does not matter whether it is rusted through or still looks new. You do not have to sort it, strip the plastic and wood off it, or drag it out to the curb before we get there, because the sorting happens on our end once the truck is loaded. One radiator, or a whole garage with a radiator buried at the back of it, we take either one.

Most of these are short jobs. You point at it, we carry it out, and nothing has to come apart first unless the thing is wider than the door it has to go through, in which case we cut it down where it stands. The part worth knowing is where it goes afterwards: scrap metal goes to Turner Inc in Lynn rather than the transfer station. That is where the metal off every job we run ends up, not something we arrange only when somebody asks. The other part worth knowing is the price, so here it is. This is a removal service and it is priced the way every other load we haul is priced: the $120 minimum, then $80 to $100 per cubic yard for the room it takes up in the truck, and about $70 a yard when the load is light and we can walk straight to it. Metal is heavy for the space it fills, so weight and access move the number here more than they do on a load of boxes, and we tell you the number before anything moves. Two things sit outside the ordinary load. Anything holding refrigerant, so fridges, freezers and AC units, is handled separately. And anything leaking or still smouldering is a no from us, so a drum or can of unknown liquid, a fuel tank that is leaking, or debris from a fire that has not fully cooled, on a scrap job the same as on any other.
