We take the pool frame apart once it's drained

We take the whole pool down and haul it away on one visit: the liner gets cut out and rolled, the top rails and the uprights come off, the wall gets unrolled and cut down to truck length, and the frame leaves in pieces. You don't need to take a single rail off before we get there. The one thing we need from you is an empty pool. We don't pump or drain it, so have the water out ahead of the visit, either yourself or through whoever closes the pool for you.

Let The Heroes Save Your Day

The other thing to sort out ahead of us is the equipment pad. The pump, the filter and any heater wiring have to be disconnected by an electrician before we touch it, because we do not do electrical or plumbing disconnects, and that is a line we do not cross. Once it is disconnected the equipment goes out with the load. The metal comes out of the load on the way: the steel or aluminum wall, the top rails and the uprights are all scrap, and scrap goes to Turner Inc in Lynn rather than the transfer station. The liner and the foam go with the rest of the load. What is usually left when the frame is gone is the sand base, and under the legs sometimes patio blocks or pavers, so tell us about those when you ask for a quote and the number will already have them in it.

Our Mission Beyond the Job

We care for the environment and are dedicated to keeping the North Shore clean, which is why our mission is to keep as many items as possible out of landfills. To accomplish this we sort through every truck load, and if we see something that can be donated we make sure it gets donated and not dumped.

Items that can't be donated but can still be repurposed get recycled. We partner with local transfer stations to safely dispose of the items left after we donate and recycle.

About Us, Our Story

The Junk Heroes is a brother-owned and operated junk removal company proudly rooted in Salem, MA. We live right on the line between Salem and Swampscott, two minutes from Vinnin Square, and we started this business because we saw a need for a junk removal service that actually showed up on time, treated customers like neighbors, and charged honest prices.

From our very first haul, we've been driven by one simple belief: every job deserves white glove care, whether it's a single couch or a full estate cleanout. That commitment has earned us 300+ five-star reviews from families and businesses throughout Salem, Swampscott, Beverly, Lynn, Marblehead, and beyond.

When you call The Junk Heroes, you're not calling a franchise, you're calling a company two brothers built from the ground up and still run, with a crew of friends who haul alongside them, and we personally stand behind every job we do.

We do this by the book. We carry $2M in general liability, a $1M umbrella policy and $1M in commercial auto coverage. We are USDOT registered (USDOT 8843043), our drivers hold DOT medical cards, and we hold commercial accounts at the disposal facilities we use, so every load ends up where it is supposed to. What We Take: Above-Ground Pool Removal

The ones people ask about: we do take paint, chemicals, motor oil, tires and car batteries. They are quoted separately because they need special handling. Mattresses, TVs and monitors are disposal-banned in Massachusetts, so they go to a specific recycler and carry a separate fee. The only things we turn down are asbestos, medical or biohazard waste, and anything leaking or still smouldering. See everything we take.

Above-Ground Pool Removal FAQs

Do I have to drain the pool before you come?

Yes, and it is the one thing that has to happen first. We do not pump or drain pools, so the water has to be gone before the visit, either done by you or by the pool company that closes it for you. There is no way around it: a liner with water sitting in it cannot be cut out, and a wall with water against it cannot be unrolled. If we pull up to a full pool there is no job to do that day. Drain it, give the ground a day to firm up if it turns soft, then call us and we will take the frame out.

How does the takedown go once the pool is dry?

In this order. The liner gets cut out and rolled up first, then the top rails and the uprights come off, then the wall is unrolled off the track and cut down into lengths that fit the truck. The frame leaves in pieces on the same visit, so you are not left looking at half a pool in the yard waiting on a second trip. You do not pre-cut anything and you do not need to unscrew a single rail, we bring the saws and the tools for all of it. If the pool has been down for a while already and what is left is a folded wall and a pile of rails in the grass, we will load that as it sits.

What happens to the pump, the filter and the sand underneath?

The pump, the filter and any heater wiring have to be disconnected by a licensed electrician before we touch the equipment pad. We do not do electrical or plumbing disconnects, and that one is a safety line rather than a scheduling preference. Once it is disconnected the equipment goes out with the load. The sand base is a separate question, because sand is heavy material and it is priced by weight rather than by volume, the same way concrete removal is. Patio blocks or pavers under the legs go the same way. Tell us the sand is there when you ask for a quote so it is in the number from the start.

How much does above-ground pool removal cost?

The frame is bulky and light, so it is volume work, at $80 to $100 per cubic yard against a truck that holds 20 cubic yards, with a $120 minimum. A wall rolled down tight and rails cut to length pack better than most of what we haul, so the frame itself is rarely the expensive half. The sand base and any patio blocks are priced by weight instead, and that is the part people forget to mention, so say what is under the pool when you send the photos. If there is a deck wrapped around the pool or a landing at the ladder, tell us and we will quote both on one visit.

How Much Will This Cost?

Pricing is based on the volume and type of items. We always provide a free, upfront quote before any work begins, no surprises, ever.

  • $120 minimum pickup
  • $80 to $100 per cubic yard
  • About $70 a yard when it is light and easy to reach

For a very small job close to our Salem base we can sometimes come down to $80 to $100, so it is worth asking. See the full pricing page.
