Light Demo & Hauling in Salem & the North Shore
The things that cannot be carried out as they are. A shed past saving, a hot tub nobody uses, a deck coming apart.
Light demolition jobs we take on around Salem
Some of the things people call us about cannot be carried out to the truck as they are, a shed that is past saving, a hot tub nobody uses anymore, a swing set the kids outgrew, a concrete walkway that has to come up, all of those have to come apart first. My brother Filipe and I do that kind of work around Salem and the North Shore, and we bring the tools and enough hands to get it done, so you do not have to touch any of it.
I do want to be clear about what light demolition means, because we are a junk removal company and not a demolition contractor, so we do not touch anything structural like a wall or a foundation. What we do is the smaller stuff that needs a sledgehammer or a saw before it will fit on the truck, we take it apart, load it up and sweep up after ourselves. If you are not sure whether your job counts, call or text me a photo and I will let you know.
What we handle
These are the ten kinds of jobs we group under light demolition, and each one has its own page with more detail on how it usually goes and what tends to affect the price. If what you have is not on the list, call anyway and describe it, and we will tell you if it is something we can do.
-
Shed Removal
Old sheds usually come down easier than people expect, we take the roof off, knock the walls in and haul every piece of it, including whatever was still stored inside.
-
Deck Removal
A deck comes off in layers, the boards first, then the joists and beams, then the posts, and we cut it into truck-length pieces where it sits so none of it gets dragged across the lawn. The concrete footings can come out with it if you want them gone.
-
Fence Removal
Wood and vinyl panels come off the posts, and chain link gets the fabric unclipped and rolled off the top rail first. Then the posts come out, either pulled with the footing still on them or cut off at grade, and that part is your call.
-
Above-Ground Pool Removal
The pool has to be drained before we get there, we do not pump it out. Once it is dry the liner is cut out and rolled, the rails and the uprights come off, and the wall is unrolled and cut down, so the whole frame leaves in pieces the same visit.
-
Hot Tub Removal
A hot tub is too heavy and awkward to move in one piece, so we cut it into sections right where it sits, carry those out to the truck and clean up the spot it was on.
-
Swing Set & Jungle Gym Removal
Most swing sets come apart with a wrench, and the parts that will not unbolt we cut, then we load it all up and clean up the spot where it was sitting so you get that part of the yard back.
-
Basketball Hoop Removal
A portable base is full of water or sand, so we empty it on site before anything moves, and the hoop goes out in pieces the same visit. An in-ground pole is set in concrete, and that one either gets cut off at grade or dug out with the footing, whichever you want.
-
Carpet Removal
Pulling up old carpet is not heavy work but it is slow, there is the padding underneath and the tack strips along every wall, and we deal with all of that and carry the rolls out to the truck.
-
Concrete Removal
We break up patios, walkways and old shed slabs, and because concrete is so heavy we quote it after seeing how thick it is and how far it has to travel to the truck.
-
Rock & Gravel Removal
There is nothing to take apart with gravel, it is mostly shoveling, so if you have a pile left over from a driveway job or a rock bed you are done with, we bring the shovels and load it by hand.
How a light demolition job goes
It starts with a call or a text to 978-915-3399, and a real person on our team picks up, never a call center. For most of these jobs I will want to see it before I give you a number, either in person or from a few photos you text over, because a shed with a rotten floor and a shed sitting on a concrete pad are very different jobs. The quote is free, we do not need a card, and you are not obligated to book anything, and once you have the number, that is the price you pay.
On the day we show up with the tools for the job and get to work taking it apart, and you do not need to lift a thing. We load the truck as we go so the pieces are not piling up in your yard, and when the last of it is loaded we sweep up the area before we leave. Whatever can still be donated or recycled gets pulled aside, only what is left goes to the dump, and you pay after the work is done.
What light demolition costs
Our minimum is $120, and from there the price is based on volume, meaning how much space everything takes up in the truck once it is broken down, measured in cubic yards. Weight and access come up a lot on demolition jobs, concrete and gravel weigh far more than a shed's worth of plywood does, and carrying pieces up a set of stairs or across a long yard takes more time, so both of those can move the final quote. If you are a long drive from Salem, the minimum can be a little higher too.
Whatever number we give you is the number you pay, we do not add anything on at the end, and you pay after the job is done. We take cash, card, check, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, Apple Pay and Google Pay. The only time we ask for a deposit is on a large cleanout, and only after you have accepted the quote. The full breakdown is on our pricing page if you want to read it before you call.
Who is doing the work
The Junk Heroes is my brother Filipe and me, Henrique, and we run it out of Salem with Rey and Luis. We are fully licensed and insured, and when you call it is a real person on our team who answers, not an answering service and not an AI.
We have over 300 five-star Google reviews and a 5.0 rating, and I would rather you read a few of those than take my word for any of this. We try to treat a whole shed the same way we would treat one couch, we show up when we said we would and we sweep up before we leave.
Light Demo & Hauling questions
Do you do full demolition, like taking down a garage or a wall?
No, and I would rather say that upfront than have you find out on the day. We are a junk removal company, so we handle the things that need to be broken down to fit on a truck, sheds, decks, fences, above-ground pool frames, hot tubs, swing sets, basketball hoops, carpet, concrete and gravel. Anything structural needs a demolition contractor, and we will tell you that on the phone if your job sounds like it.
Do I need to take any of it apart myself before you come?
No, that is the part we are there for, we bring the tools and we do the lifting. If you have already pulled some of it apart and stacked it by the driveway, that is fine too, we can pick it up from the curb just as easily, but there is no need to touch any of it before we get there.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
For a single item like a couch we can, but demolition jobs are harder to price without seeing them, because the size of the thing and how far it all has to be carried change the work quite a bit. Texting a few photos over helps, and the quote is free either way, we do not ask for a card and there is no obligation.
What happens to the debris after you haul it?
The same thing that happens to everything we haul, we try to donate first, recycle second and only dump what is left. Most demolition debris is not something anyone is going to want donated, but we still sort out what can be recycled before anything goes to the dump, and we do that sorting on our end so you do not have to think about it.
Can you come out the same day?
Often, yes, but I will not promise it, because it depends on where we are and how the day is going. We are open 24 hours and a real person picks up when you call, so the fastest way to find out is to call or text 978-915-3399 and we will tell you what we can do.
If you have something that needs breaking down
If there is a shed, a hot tub, a slab or anything else on your property that has to come apart before it can leave, give us a call or a text at 978-915-3399 and a real person on our team will pick up. Send a couple of photos if that is easier, we will look them over and get back to you, usually within minutes, and if it is something we can handle we will tell you what it costs and when we can be there. If it turns out to be bigger than what we do, we will tell you that too, we would rather be straight with you than take on a job we shouldn't!
"Absolutely recommend!!! Excellent communication, very polite, and clear pricing. These guys WANT TO WORK, flexible and patient as our plans kept shifting. My dad has dementia and they were incredibly sensitive to our situation. We really appreciated that!"
"Absolutely awesome experience with Junk Heroes! Professional, friendly, efficient, and incredibly quick. They showed up on time and made the whole junk-removal process painless. Moving out of an apartment is stressful enough, so a crew that takes pride in the work was huge."
"Junk Heroes did an amazing job with our junk removal in Saugus, Massachusetts. They arrived on time, worked fast, and completely cleared out a porch that was packed with junk, boxes, and old items. The before-and-after difference was amazing."
"The Junk Heroes are awesome!!! Excellent communication, showed up on time, and worked quickly. They were super careful while removing a heavy, awkward appliance through an old house and they talked to each other throughout the process to make sure nothing was damaged."
"Absolutely would recommend Henrique and Filipe, so nice and professional and came same day for both a quote and the actual removal!! They were careful to pivot things around our existing furniture and walls so as not to scratch or damage anything. Only good things to say!"
"Did a wonderful job from start to finish. Had 2 hospital beds that needed to be dismantled and hauled away. They took great care in moving the pieces throughout my house and getting them on the truck. Pricing was transparent and fair."
